Closing Merit List of MBBS 2023-2024

Getting into one of the best medical schools of Pakistan is a dream of every single medical student, isn’t it?

But unfortunately, not everyone is able to make this dream into reality.

Because this dream isn’t as easy to fulfil as it seems…

Admission to medical and dental colleges is based solely on merit. MDCAT marks, along with SSC and HSSC marks, are required to calculate students’ merit.

Government Medical and Dental Colleges have a certain closing merit, which is determined after UHS publishes the merit lists after MDCAT.

Usually entry test difficulty level determines the merit, whether it’s high or low. Students usually look up the previous year’s merit lists to see which medical or dental college they are going to get into.

Hence, we’ll provide you with the closing merits of Medical colleges for MBBS.

These are government colleges’ merit criteria. Private colleges have merit less than these but they have high fee structures which makes it difficult for most students to choose MBBS or BDS i  n private medical or dental colleges.

Students can do MBBS or BDS in government medical or dental colleges or private colleges. But first, they have to pass the entry test, and the passing marks required to ace MDCAT, according to the Pakistan Medical Dental Council PMDC this year, are as follows:

  • 55% in MDCAT for admissions in MBBS.
  • 45% in MDCAT for admissions in BDS.

55% of MDCAT means 110 marks out of 200 questions for MBBS, and 45% of MDCAT means 90 marks out of 200. There is no negative marking in the UHS marking system for the entry test.

This policy may change throughout the years, but the current updates support this criteria in 2023-2024. These are just passing marks, as overall results should be better if the candidate wants to get into a good medical school.

The difficulty level of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) in Pakistan is increasing year by year and students attempting MDCAT are more than 2 lac hence the competition is huge. Students unable to secure admission in government medical or dental colleges move towards private MBBS or BDS to pursue their career in medicine. Criteria for private MBBS or BDS are less than government. However, private medical colleges also have their merit criteria which will be given after UHS merit lists.

About 40% weightage of FSC/A levels is included in merit calculation and 50% entry test along with 10% Matric/O levels hence good marks in Higher Secondary School Certificate qualification (HSSC) or an equivalent 12th grade qualification is required and the passing marks should be around 65% or above.

It is important to know the tentative structure of the MDCAT aggregate calculation if the candidate is preparing for the entry test. Students must meet the right criteria and score good marks on the entry test as well as FSC/A Levels. By knowing the right criteria given by PMDC and the latest updates one must get a lot of help and will know how many marks he/she should have to be eligible to get admission in Medical and Dental schools.

We wish all the students the best of luck and prayers that are going to appear before MDCAT. Remember that diligent preparation is key to achieving success in the MDCAT and pursuing a career in medicine or dentistry in Pakistan so just have faith in Allah and pave your way with passion. The future is yours!
